Working Together to Fight Drug and Alcohol Abuse
A Forever Recovery is fully dedicated towards assisting the community in all ways possible in terms of aiding organizations seeking to positively make an impact in the struggle against misuse of alcohol and drugs. We have come together with like-minded organizations such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Mack Alive Foundation for a Drug Free Detroit, and the National Baptist Convention, just to mention a few.
In pursuance of that spirit, recently we came together with Post Community Credit Union in a fundraising drive, where we pledged a grant match of around $5,000. This goes into the kitty for a new police department K9 Police Dog. This is the location of the Battle Creek, MI substance abuse treatment center.
The August 14th, 2015 fundraising event, dubbed “Penny For Your Dog”, was held in one of the PCCU local locations. Residents in the area were invited to be part of the effort and bring their spare change toward the cause. Several large water bottles got filled with coins as well as paper currency.
The event also included a bake sale, and a photo and autograph signing session that with Lomas Brown, Rob Rubick and Herman Moore, all Detroit Lions former players. By the time when “Penny For Your Dog” event was being held, the fundraising efforts of PCCU had realized $3,000, and if the numbers who turned up during the event are anything to go by, the $5000 target is within grasp.
Also present during the function was Ace, the new drug dog, who was accompanied by Chad Fickle, his handler. Normally, the K9 Officers get training that is highly specialized and their requirements surpass those of the normal dog, and that of course comes with matching price tag. Typically, it will require approximately $12, 500 to manage a K9 Officer, which covers necessary accessories like protective vests and kennels.
With the A Forever Recovery grant match of $5,000, the final contribution comes to $10,000, which takes care of Ace’s expenses. This goes towards relieving the taxpayers of Battle Creek some of the burden and also ensuring that the police can effectively tackle the neighborhood drug and community issues.
Through any way we can help, our dedication to outreach community programs goes beyond the recovery center walls. While the management of people seeking help to overcome their addiction still tops our priority list, we also appreciate we need to do much more in this fight against drugs and alcohol abuse.
We at A Forever Recovery, through our continued commitment are making efforts to become a force that is effectual in the battle against all forms of substance abuse. We shall do all we can towards making our world a healthier and safer place for all.
